I signed up for golf lessons in Puchong
I signed up for 3 months golf lessons in Puchong, as a female golfer.
It took place in Bandar Kinrara Golf Club.
1. Cost
RM1,600 for 3 months. Unlimited Class. Available from 8am – 5pm daily. Venue at Bandar Kinrara, right opposite Mcdonald’s.
2. Coach Riley
I met Coach Riley at Bukit Jalil driving range few years back.
I was hitting a ball, but the ball barely fly from the mat. Sometimes the ball embarrassed me by staying on the mat after I swing the club.
There Coach Riley saw me, and he offered me a few tips and I started to see my ball flying high and far. All happened within an hour.
I didn’t even compare price when I signed up with his academy.
Right after, I purchased a RM650 second hand golf set at Carousell, female set Mizuno, then started to explore this wondrous sport.
3. As a female golfer
Absolutely female friendly
Male to female is about 6:4 in the academy. There are a lot of kids under age 12. Coach is specialised in training young boys and girls to competition.
4. What if I don’t have a golf set?
I started with an iron 7.
A brand new iron 7 sells average at RM150 at shopee. If you want to look fancy, you may purchase a Sunday golf bag at another RM150. There’s plenty of good deal at carousel.
There’s also shops that sell second hand golf equipment around the neighbourhood.
Kim Park Golf @AURORA’s place
PGM is a brand that sells quality and affordable golf gadget.
5. How long till I’m ready to play in the golf course?
I took 6 months to get ready. I signed up the first 3 months, then I stopped for 5 months just to practice, mould things into place. At 9th month I signed up for the second package, fine tuning so I can play with my husband and other male golfer. So in total taken me a year.
Few years later, I signed up another package, because it was fun.
6. The experience

Sports accessories are like car accessories, the range are wide. There’s driver that’s 18k gold plated, and 10 ringgit driver cushion cover, so you won’t shine us blind.
6. Is golf set expensive?
Yes, but not in my case.
As a fresh grad, I gotten mine 2nd hand at RM650. It’s a complete set with Driver, wood, iron, putter, pitching and sand wedge. I bought a new bag, and sold the old bag at carousel at RM50.
Few years into playing, I had replace the driver, and 2 iron club. They all cost me around RM100 each, all second hand but in good condition.
7. Do you need a membership?
Not as a beginner. Yes for a long term golfer. Especially if you want to travel abroad to play.
8. What if I have no friends to play golf with me?
I am the lone golfer. I always go to driving range alone.
Sometimes I go to the green alone too.
At the golf clubs I play, they don’t allow 1 pax player, I will have to hire a caddie. Which is absolutely worth the pay.
Fee | Amount |
Golf fee | RM70 |
Caddie | RM60 |
Tipping (a must) | RM50 (minimum) |
Total | RM180 |
As your skills build up, you will attract friends to play together.
The Story
Golf Curriculum at University Putra Malaysia, UPM
I first tried out golf at school. It was one of the curriculum. It’s part of the CGPA pointer. I got an A for it. Actually most people get that as long as you didn’t crash a buggy or absent from classes.
Right after graduation, I took my boyfriend’s dad’s spare/unwanted Driver. And head to Bukit Jalil Driving Range. I was trying to start with a Driver. So ambitious. Actually that’s the first club the UPM coach let us try, so I thought people usually start their training using a driver.
Check out cafes in Puchong you can visit after your sweaty session.
