How much to spend on durian in Puchong
It’s time to feast on durian. Since we live at 16 Sierra @ Puchong south, we decided to go Seri Kembangan for a quick fix.
1. Location: Seri Kembangan
We had our first durian at Jeff Durian @ Seri Kembangan, after Puchong south toll, go up the first flyover, and you’ll see their store.
Seri Kembangan is 15 mins from Puchong. I wanted to avoid the crowd and smell fresh air somewhere else. So we came to Seri Kembangan.
2. Average RM60/pax
| D24 | RM20 / pc | |
| XO | RM48 /pc | |
| D24 | RM 38/pc | |
| Musang King | RM72 / pc | RM48 / kg |
There were three of us. I basically had durian for dinner — super filling! My parents didn’t eat as much as me.
We spent a total RM178 for 3 pax. Had 2 x D24 and Musang King and XO one each.
3. Taste first culture
The procedure goes by:

D24 Milky and a hint of bitterness
Durian @ Puchong South

Musang King. You can hardly go wrong on Musang King.
The staff will ask what type of durian you want — D24, XO, or Udang Merah. Say you go for D24. They’ll axe open one right there and ask you to try. If it doesn’t taste good or isn’t up to your standard, they’ll just put it aside and open another one — no extra charge. You only pay for the one you accept.
The ‘rejected’ durians don’t go to waste — they’re usually sent to ice cream parlours or food factories to be made into durian biscuits, snacks, or other products.
4. A B or C
Most people think A, B, C grades are about taste — but actually, it’s the shape that matters. A-grade durians are nicely rounded with five full ‘petals,’ so they have more flesh inside. If the durian is smaller or shaped weirdly, it gets graded as B or C, even though it might still taste just as good

C grade durian the boss gave us for free. It tastes superb, but the durian only have this single petal.

5. Experienced seller
Some durian sellers don’t eat durian at all during the season — and it’s not because they don’t like it. There’s a belief among experienced sellers that if they eat durian while working, they’ll lose their ability to smell and properly grade the fruit. So, they wait patiently until the very end of the season. Only after selling their last durian do they finally sit down and enjoy it themselves
6. 7pm on a Saturday
July 2025. The season started last month. But we wait until July to eat our first durian this season.
We visited at 6:30pm. The crowd started to gather when we are leaving around 8pm.
