Inside scoop zero series
I had terrible bloating after the ice cream. So I went around to find information about the Ice cream.
My favourite ice cream now has a zero sugar version. Replacing cane sugar with Maltitol and sorbitol. Is it healthy?
Nice! It’s always exciting when a favourite treat gets a “healthier” version — but let’s break it down:
Maltitol and Sorbitol are sugar alcohols, often used as sugar substitutes in sugar-free or low-carb products. They have fewer calories than regular sugar and don’t spike blood sugar as much — but there are a few things to keep in mind:
Pros:
- Lower glycemic index: They don’t raise blood sugar as quickly as cane sugar.
- Fewer calories: About 2–3 calories per gram vs. 4 for sugar.
- Tooth-friendly: They don’t contribute to tooth decay like sugar.
Cons:
- Digestive issues: In larger amounts, they can cause bloating, gas, or even a laxative effect — especially maltitol.
- Still carbs: If you’re tracking carbs strictly (e.g., on keto), these still count, just less than sugar.
There is no nutrition contents with inside scoop product. Their official website claimed that it has 20% less calorie than the regular version.
To achieve the same amount of sugar, do they use the same gram of morbitol and sorbitol?
